Redundancy and the requirement for reasonable adjustments

Disabled employees, like employees on maternity leave, have special rights in a redundancy situation. If an employee suffers from a disability you must consider making changes to their working environment or practices. Such adjustments can include making changes to your policies and procedures, even if these rules are applied generally to all of your staff. This should always be done if it would help avoid the employee being disadvantaged because of their disability.

Failure to implement these reasonable adjustments could leave your business exposed to a potential claim of unfair, or worst, constructive dismissal if you have to go through a redundancy process.
