IMPORTANT WARNING – Companies House bogus e-mails

This update as part of the Remedy business advice series identifies the latest in a long line of bogus e-mails purporting to come from Companies House.

We have been made aware of an email that has caused some companies extensive problems. Please ensure that your employees are aware of these emails and how to deal with them. The e-mails claim to come from Companies House and ask recipients to click a link that prompts the user to run software which can cause irreversible damage to computers and data. Anyone receiving the mail should delete it and NOT open links, attachments or accept any prompts to download or run software. (Usually in .exe format)

Companies House issued the following statement: “These mails have NOT been generated by Companies House and we strongly advise you not to open any attachments or click any suspicious links within the email”.

These e-mails are very authentic and look like the real thing and typically will contain the following type of information:

“A company complaint was submitted to Companies House website.  The submission number is 7301545

For more details please click : https://companieshouse.gov.uk/Case?=7301545

Please quote this number in any communications with Companies House.

All Web Filed documents are available to view / download for 10 days after their original submission. However it is not possible to view copies of accounts that were downloaded as templates.

Companies House Executive Agency may use information it holds to prevent and detect fraud. We may also share such information, for the same purpose, with other organisations that handle public funds. If you have any queries please contact the Companies House Contact Centre on +44 (0)303 1234 500 or email enquiries@companies-house.gov.uk

Note: This email was sent from a notification-only email address which cannot accept incoming email. Please do not reply directly to this message”.
